Editorial policy

A directory is only worth reading if you know how it is made. Here is our sourcing, writing and correction process in plain terms.

Sourcing

Facts on an area-code page come from public numbering-plan records and official regional sources: which code serves which numbering area, which codes overlay it, when relief plans take effect, and which counties and municipalities fall inside it. Time zones are stored as IANA identifiers so daylight saving is handled by the browser rather than by us guessing. Where sources disagree, we prefer the carrier or regulator notice over a secondary directory.

Writing standards

  • Every page is written from that code's own record — no shared paragraph with the number swapped.
  • Numbers are labelled honestly: "population (est.)" means an estimate for the area served.
  • If we cannot verify a field, we omit it instead of filling the gap with plausible filler.
  • We do not copy wording from other directories, and we do not publish text we have not reviewed.

How AI is used

Automated tooling helps assemble and format the dataset — matching cities to codes, computing offsets, checking that every page has the fields it needs. Editorial claims are reviewed by a person, and we do not publish machine-generated speculation about specific phone numbers or callers.

Corrections

When a correction arrives we check it against a primary source. Confirmed errors are fixed at the data layer, which updates every page that uses the field, usually within a few days. If a change is significant — a new overlay, a dialing-rule change — the affected pages say so rather than changing silently. Send reports through the contact page.

Independence from advertising

Advertising pays for hosting. Advertisers do not see content before publication, cannot request changes, and cannot buy placement inside the directory's text. Nothing on an area-code page is sponsored.

Safety content

Scam and robocall sections describe publicly reported patterns and general defensive habits. We avoid alarmist framing, we never imply that a region's callers are dishonest, and we point readers to the FTC, the CRTC and their own carrier for enforcement. The disclaimer sets out the limits of that guidance.
