Why the site exists
Search for an unfamiliar area code and most results either bury the answer under ads or promise to reveal "who called" if you pay first. Neither is useful when your phone is ringing. Area Code Search USA was built to be the boring, dependable alternative: the region, the primary city, the live local time, a map, the codes that overlap it, and plain-English guidance on whether the call is worth answering — all above the fold and all free.
Where the data comes from
Each record is compiled from public numbering-plan information about the North American Numbering Plan, then cross-checked against city, county and time-zone references. Time zones use IANA identifiers, so clocks follow daylight-saving rules automatically rather than being hard-coded. Population figures are area estimates and are labelled as such. Map imagery comes from OpenStreetMap contributors.
How a page is built
A code's page is generated from its own record, not from a template with the number swapped. The introduction, FAQ answers and safety notes are woven from that code's real city list, counties, overlays and neighbours, which is why 315 and 973 read differently. Where we have no verified figure — a population estimate, an establishment year — the page says so or leaves it out rather than inventing one.
What we do not do
- We do not identify callers or run reverse phone lookups.
- We do not sell, resell or host any personal subscriber data.
- We do not gate information behind a payment, a survey or an email address.

How we pay for it
Hosting and data maintenance are funded by advertising. Ads never change what a page says, and no advertiser gets to influence the directory's content. Our privacy policy explains what advertising partners can and cannot see.
